Frequently asked questions

Will this keep working after Microsoft removes LPD from Windows Server?
Yes. AmazeLPD is a standalone Windows service that does not depend on the Microsoft LPD service at all β€” it implements RFC 1179 independently, so it is unaffected when Microsoft removes its component.
Do I need to change anything on the AS400 or sending side?
No. AmazeLPD receives standard LPR jobs. Your AS400 output queue, Linux lpr command, or any other LPR client keeps working exactly as before β€” just point it at the AmazeLPD server IP.
Can I print from a Mac or modern Linux box without setting up LPR?
Yes. Every queue is also exposed as an IPP printer at ipp://<server>:631/printers/<QueueName>. Add it with lpadmin or macOS System Settings and print normally β€” it lands in the same spool and queue as LPR jobs.
What happens to jobs if the destination server is unavailable?
Jobs are spooled to disk and held as Pending. When the destination becomes available they process automatically. You can also pause and resume individual queues from the manager.
Can I run many queues pointing to different destinations?
Yes. Each queue has its own server address, package/branch and parameters β€” you can run 100 queues routing to different destinations at the same time.
